  • NAME: Debbie Risman
  • SCHOOL: Entering Concord High School
  • GRADE: Ninth
  • AGE: 14
  • LATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: At her eighth-grade Lincoln Middle School graduation, Debbie was awarded an Allison Menzies Award as overall outstanding student. Among her attributes, she maintained exemplary grades, showed athletic ability, school spirit and a "smile and good attitude," she said.

  • ACHIEVEMENTS: Debbie is vice president of her synagogue's youth group at Kehillat Ma'arav. She participates in and helps organize social and religious events, as well as social action programs like cleaning the beach, feeding the homeless and visiting convalescent homes.

  • ACTIVITIES: Debbie plays YWCA basketball and was a cheerleader at Lincoln. This summer, she is a counselor-in-training weekdays at Camp Crossroads, where she helps children at meal times, tutors and plays with them.

  • ASPIRATION: "I always wanted to be an actress. But I love the ocean and the beach, so maybe I'll go into oceanography."

  • QUOTE: "When my name was announced for the (Allison Menzies) award, all my friends turned around and looked at me like, 'How did she get that?' They were pretty shocked. And so were my parents."
