  • NAME: KABRIA ANDERSON

  • GRADE: 10
  • Achievements: Kabria writes poetry and one of her pieces, “The Wonder Road,” was recently published in a National Library of Poetry collection. The poem also had been previously published in Seasons of Laughter, an anthology of poems.

    Activities: Kabria has earned a 4.2 grade point average and is now taking Advanced Placement courses in biology and English. She is also enrolled in two foreign language classes, Spanish and French. She recently attended the Minority Student Medical Career Awareness Workshop in San Francisco, a conference which introduces students to colleges and universities with medical schools and programs.

    Aspiration: She hopes to attend Harvard or Yale, and is considering becoming a pediatrician or biologist, and a writer. “I want to be like the person who can find a cure, help people who are less fortunate.”

    Quote: “Writing poetry is kind of like my outlet,” Kabria said. “If you don’t (do that), you end up being so closed up, you can’t explore.” ­ Lisa Mascaro
